Math is an ongoing practice of new information, activation and application of previous knowledge, as well as the communication of ideas, thoughts, to then make new connections to future unknown problems.

Each learning and assessment opportunity, of the the math curriculum, in my math classes is evaluated on the following four areas of the Mathematical Process, with the exception of homework.

  • Knowledge and Understanding (Level 1)
  • Thinking (Level 2)
  • Application (Level 3 and 4)
  • Communication (All Levels)

The marks in the middle school are determined and culminated into a percentage (%) grade. Students receive both marks and feedback on assessments and reporting scenarios (i.e. report cards, tests, projects etc.)

Homework is NOT graded for content; however, it is used as a reference of effort, individual practice, and completion of the latter. It is important that students recognize that there are areas of study, such as math, that do require on-going practice and effort, and in this instance; all areas of the mathematical process, (knowledge and understanding, thinking, application, and communication)

Final Report Card Grades will be determined on the following marking scheme:

Trimester 1

  • Tests and Quizzes: 65%
  • Classwork and Assignments 25%
  • Participation (homework completion, discussion, thoughts, and owning own learning): 10%

Trimester 2

  • Tests and Quizzes: 45%
  • Classwork and Assignments 25%
  • Math Exam: 20%
  • Participation (homework completion, discussion, thoughts, and owning own learning): 10%

Trimester 3

  • Tests and Quizzes: 45%
  • Classwork and Assignments 25%
  • Cumulative Budget/Finance Project : 20%
  • Participation (homework completion, discussion, thoughts, and owning own learning):10%
